Jimmy Gumm, 64

August 29, 1960  –  October 7, 2024

SALTILLO – James H. ‘Jimmy’ Gumm died Monday, October 7, 2024 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was 64 years old. James was born on August 29, 1960 in Waukegan, Illinois to the late James Harold Gumm, Sr. and Julian Alice Howard Gumm Thompson, who survives. James grew up in the greater Chicago area in Illinois. He spent most of his adult life in this area and was a certified HVAC and Chrysler technician by trade. He retired in May, 2023 as maintenance supervisor for Trace Ridge Apartments when his health began to fail. A genuine good ole soul, Jimmy enjoyed his family and friends and made great sacrifices along the way to see that their needs were met. Likeable and approachable, Jimmy enjoyed his 37 years as a member of the Tupelo Church of God where he served his God and fellow church members with kindness, faithfulness and joy. Jimmy loved the outdoors and all of God’s creation, enjoyed fishing the lakes, ponds, creeks and waterways of this area and traveling to the Smokey Mountains. He and his family loved camping and water sports at Elliott Branch Campground near Red Bay, Ala. Jimmy followed sports and was a strong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears as well as the Miss. State Bulldogs.



A celebration of life service will be take place at 1 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Tupelo Church of God in Tupelo with Pastor Judd Vowell and Bro. Raymond Avens officiating with burial to follow in Eggville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and from 12 PM Noon to service time on Wednesday all at Tupelo Church of God, 1813 Briar Ridge Drive, Tupelo, MS. 38804. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pam Black-Jones Gumm; sons, Matthew Gumm (Lakyn) of Mooreville, and Ryan Palmer and his fiancé Tessa of Round Lake Beach, IL; a grandson, Kyle Palmer of Wonder Lake, IL; his mother, Alice Thompson of Round Lake Beach, IL; a special aunt and uncle, who raised him as their own child, James “Dude” Moore and Peggy Moore of Wheeler, MS; his step-mother, Candy Gumm of Saltillo, MS; his extended family, including siblings, Randy Black (Laura) of Mantachie, Andy Black (Gina) of Mooreville, Kitty Black of Saltillo, Tammy Stults (Jason) of Saltillo, and sisters, Lynn Glauser, Laura Hall, Danielle McCoy, Tiffany Corrales, Misty Taft, Ashely Charrier, Whitney Evans, and Kim Moore-Jackson; 17 nephews, 12 nieces, 8 great-nieces, 11 great-nephews, a host of cousins, friends, and co-workers; and two very special fur-grandbabies, Cooper and Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Emily Marie Gumm and Bethany Paige Gumm; his father, Harold Gumm; his grandparents, Vernon and Dolly Gumm; and his father and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Marie Black.

Pallbearers will be Randy, Andy, and Roman Black, Jace and Jonah Stults, Justin Jackson, Bub Rock, and Cameron Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews and friends: Beau Black, Aiden Croft, Rhett Stults, Anderson Croft, Colt Rock, Corey Smith, Ted Tackett, Darnell Davis, Jordan Jackson, Jake Davis, Ronald Floyd, Robbie Gumm, Kaleb Felks, Greg Hall, and Jason McBrayer.
