John A. Johnson, 76

April 5, 1948 – February 8, 2025

Deacon John A. Johnson, Sr., was born on April 5, 1948, to the late Pastor William A. Johnson and the late Mary Louise Johnson. On December 28, 1968, he united with his loving wife, Lue Jean (Buchanan) Johnson, in holy matrimony for 57 years. He departed this life on February 8, 2025 at the age of 76 in Tupelo, MS. He lived a long, fulfilling, and devoted life.

Deacon Johnson accepted Christ early at Pine Grove Dorsey MB Church. Later in life, he was added to Black Oak MB Church, and Morning Star MB Church where he was ordained as a deacon. Deacon Johnson retired in 2005 from Tecumseh. He served in the United States Army for twenty years, where he retired. Deacon Johnson loved playing basketball in high school.

His passion was teaching and he enjoyed giving God praise. He was in a Gospel Quartet group called The Willing Sons, where he played the keyboard. He loved to teach; he was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Deacon Johnson and his loving wife, Lue Jean, taught their children to sing and play instruments at a very young age. They traveled around singing as the Johnson Family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lue Jean Johnson; six children, Patrenia Miller (Pastor Reggie Miller), Andrew Johnson (Amelia) Nedra Hersey (Daddy’s Girl), John Johnson Jr. (Nikita), Toddrick Johnson (Laura), and Candice Ivy (Sheron). Also, nine grand-sons, thirteen grand-daughters, four great-grands, six sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, special friends and loved ones.

Deacon Johnson was a man of unwavering faith, boundless love, and steadfast devotion—not only to his family but most importantly to the Lord. His life was a testament to God’s grace and he walked in faith every single day. His favorite scripture was: John 3:16

Deacon Johnson was loved by all who knew him and never met a stranger. His warm spirit, kind heart, and deep love for people made him a beacon of light in every room he entered. He found his greatest joy in praising God, which he did wholeheartedly—through teaching the Word, sharing his testimony, and lifting his voice in song. With a passion for worship, he played the keyboard and sang praises to the Lord, using his gifts to glorify God and uplift those around him.

A true witness for Christ, Deacon Johnson was never shy about sharing his faith. He didn’t just talk the talk—he walked the walk. He lived a life that reflected God’s love, grace, and righteousness, ensuring that his actions aligned with his faith. He wanted his life to serve as a guiding light for others, leading them to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Throughout his journey he received numerous recognitions for his lifelong service—not only in the United States Army but also in the Army of the Lord. His faith was unwavering, his love was unconditional, and his dedication to serving God and his family was immeasurable.

To his beloved family, he was the GHFOAT—The Greatest Husband and Father of All Time. His love and devotion knew no bounds and his presence will be deeply missed. While he may no longer walk beside us, his legacy of faith, love, and service will live on through the lives of those he touched. His presence and his sword will be missed on the battlefield.

Rest well, Deacon Johnson. Your light continues to shine, and your legacy will never fade.
