John Edward Gresham, age 76, affectionately known as Eddie, left this world on July 22, 2024, following an unexpected accident. He was born on November 15, 1947, in Union County, MS.

Eddie was the son of the late Quincy Leroy Gresham and Jewel Dean Roberts Gresham. His life was a testament to his resilience and the deep bonds of family. He was a beloved husband to Reba Thomas Gresham, a devoted father to Cindy Gresham, Brenda Gresham Hayman (Eric), and Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Barnes, and a cherished brother to Barbara Gresham Smith (Jessie). Eddie was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will carry his legacy forward. Preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Gresham Smithey, and brothers, Bobby Gresham, Jimmy Gresham, and Terry Gresham, and one grandchild, Gracie Hughey. Eddie was a central figure in the lives of those who remain to cherish his memory.

Eddie’s formative years were spent at Myrtle High School, where he laid the foundations of a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and skill. He furthered his education at Itawamba Community College (ICC). His career spanned over 34 years at BNSF Railroad, where he retired with distinction. Eddie’s sense of duty extended beyond his professional life, as he honorably served in the United States Army, defending the values he held dear. Eddie was a member of First Pentecostal Church in New Albany, MS.

Those who knew Eddie were touched by his unwavering generosity and kindness. He was a selfless man who found joy in helping others and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His interests were as varied as they were endearing. An avid fisherman, Eddie could often be found by the water’s edge, basking in the tranquility of nature. A jack of all trades, he loved tinkering with anything he could get his hands on, finding satisfaction in the simple pleasures of fixing and creating.

Eddie’s home was a hub of laughter and camaraderie, where playing cards with friends was not just a pastime but a ritual that strengthened the bonds of friendship. His role as a grandfather was one he embraced with an open heart, delighting in the unique joys that each grandchild brought into his life. To his daughters, Eddie was more than a father; he was their hero, the rock upon which they built their lives. His steadfast presence provided a foundation of strength and love that will endure in their hearts forever.

Eddie’s life was one of unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his community. He was the epitome of the words selfless, generous, and kind.
