John Honan, 73
September 9, 1952 – September 5, 2026
Tupelo – John Honan, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026, just four days before his 74th birthday. John was born on September 9, 1952, in New York City to Frank Honan and Hannah Easterling Honan. He was a proud graduate of Tupelo High School, Class of 1972.
John had a love for sports and enjoyed watching just about anything that was being played. His brother, Barry, especially enjoyed taking John to Mississippi State and Ole Miss Football games, creating many wonderful memories together. NASCAR was another favorite of John’s, and he had a knack for picking the winner. John also had a genuine love for his work. He was employed as a mail courier for North Mississippi Medical Clinics, working out of the IMA Tupelo Clinic. John loved the people he worked with and made a point to speak to everyone he encountered. He was known for his stories, his sense of humor, and, of course, his famously slow walk. John often joked that he would retire when he dies, and true to his word, he was still working at IMA at the time of his passing.
John is survived by his brothers, Rick Honan and his wife, Virginia Honan and Barry Honan; grandsons, Shane Honan and his wife, Helen, and Sean Honan and his wife, Noelle; and great-great-grandchildren, Lucas, Sara, Beau, Livia, and Tucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Honan and Hannah Easterling Honan.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.
A funeral service of the Resurrection for John will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Father Timothy Murphy officiating.
