John Mitchell Rodgers, 69
December 16, 1956 – January 4, 2026
John Mitchell Rodgers passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was born on December 16, 1956, in Dewey, Oklahoma, to John Franklin Rodgers and Mary Lou Rodgers.
John grew up alongside his four siblings: Jack, Jerry, Jeffrey, and Jennana Rodgers. Jack resides in Oklahoma, Jerry in New Mexico, and Jeffrey in California.
John attended high school in Farmington, New Mexico, where he participated in many sports, but baseball held his heart. A talented and dedicated athlete, he played in the Connie Mack World Series for two consecutive years—1973 and 1974—representing both the Road Runners and the Gassers. His love for the game never faded and remained a constant thread throughout his life. Long after his playing days ended, John stayed closely connected to the sport by serving as a baseball umpire, giving back to the game he loved and supporting young athletes with fairness, patience, and quiet leadership.
On August 14, 1976, John married the love of his life, Robin Dannar Rodgers. Their marriage was a true partnership built on devotion, respect, and unwavering love. Together they raised two children, Sara and Denver, who were the pride and joy of John’s life.
Sara is married to Justin Abalos, and together they have three children: Brooke-Lynn, Lincoln, and Holland. Denver is married to Lauren, and they share two children, Londyn and Emersyn. John was a deeply devoted grandfather who never missed a milestone, school event, or sporting activity. He believed strongly in creating meaningful, lasting memories and showed up fully for the people he loved.
Known as a gentle giant with an immensely large heart, John was a man of few words—but when he spoke, his words carried weight and wisdom. To know John was to know peace, steadfast support, and a love that never wavered.
John owned and operated a successful tile company, leaving behind not only a respected business but a lasting legacy of artistry. His craftsmanship can still be seen today in offices, malls, and custom homes across the country—each project a reflection of his pride in his work and attention to detail.
Outside of his work and family, John had a deep appreciation for history and reading, cherished time at the beach, and had a lifelong passion for automobiles—especially classic Ford pickup trucks. He was particularly fond of the 1978 and 1979 Ford models, admiring their durability, craftsmanship, and timeless design. He also enjoyed car racing of all kinds, with many joyful memories made at the drag strip, paved tracks, and dirt tracks—moments filled with excitement, laughter, and togetherness.
Even in his passing, John continued to care for his family, thoughtfully preparing every detail to ensure they were left with peace and comfort during this time of transition—a final act of love that reflected the man he was.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Rodgers and Mary Lou Rodgers, and his sister, Jennana Rodgers Bassett.
In his final moments, John shared his favorite Bible verse, found in Matthew 6:26, a reflection of his faith, trust, and enduring belief in God’s care.
John Mitchell Rodgers will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and the profound love he gave to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the example he set.
