Johnny H. Gory, 85

Tupelo – Johnny H. Gory, 85, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on April 1, 1941, to the late Norbin and Dollie Clayton Gory. Johnny was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He was a 1961 graduate of Shannon High School, where he played basketball. He married the love of his life, Betty Cox, on July 3, 1964. They shared almost 62 years of wedded bliss. Johnny worked for Wonder Bread in Greenwood before returning home to Tupelo in 1973. Upon returning to Tupelo, he was a salesman for Cash Distributing Company until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church Tupelo. He loved spending time with his family, camping, fishing, gardening, and playing cards with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Cox Gory of Tupelo; son, John T. Gory and his wife, Christie, of Sherman; and his only grandson, Dr. John Zachary Gory and Kassidy Britt, of Sherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Bro. Ricky Young and Dr. John Zachary Gory officiating. Burial will follow in Sherman Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Glen Gory, Bryan Gory, Bill Collins, Danny Cash, Hal Hancock, and Eddie Tate.
