Johnny Wayne Brooks, age 79, departed this earthly life and entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, at his home in New Albany, Mississippi.
Funeral services honoring Mr. Johnny’s life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 10, 2026, in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care, with visitation beginning at 10 AM and continuing until the time of service. Bro. Mitchell Hall will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Methodist Church Cemetery in the Plantersville community of Lee County, with no graveside service.
Born August 12, 1947, in Mississippi, Mr. Johnny was the son of the late Tildon and Beatrice Cook Brooks. He received his education in the Plantersville public school system and married his beloved wife, Mary Eloise Hudson Brooks, who preceded him in death. A hardworking man, Mr. Johnny spent his life as a self-employed farmer, tending the land and finding satisfaction in the work he loved.
A Christian and member of Moss Hill Baptist Church, Mr. Johnny was as good a fellow as they come. He enjoyed gardening, riding around, and simply spending the day piddling. With a playful spirit and a knack for pulling a good joke, he loved bringing laughter wherever he went. Whether sharing a funny story or teasing someone he loved, Mr. Johnny had a way of putting a smile on the faces of those around him.
His fun-loving nature, devotion to those he held dear, and ability to find joy in everyday moments will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His memory lives on through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, many cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Ruth; his daughter, Wanda Bishop; and a very special friend, Bessie Roberts.
