MAJOR UPDATE: Man who discharged handgun at Hallmarc is, in fact, an adult
UPDATED November 4, 2022 at 11:45PM: NAPD Chief Chris Robertson informed NEMiss.News late Friday evening that the man who discharged a handgun at Hallmarc Inn earlier in the evening is actually an adult. The man told police officers he was only 17 years old, However, officers determined that he is an adult and will be charged as such.
A handgun was fired shortly before 6 p.m. in a room at the motel located at 304 Highway 30 West, near Interstate 22. The man with the gun was taken into custody by the New Albany Police Department (NAPD). Authorities have possession of the firearm.
The shot penetrated the wall of the room from which it was fired and entered an occupied room next door. “We were very lucky that nobody was injured,” NAPD Chief Chris Robertson told NEMiss.News.
Robertson said investigators have discovered more about the man and will continue investigating during the weekend.
It is believed only one shot was fired.
Robertson said a determination will be made during the weekend as to what charges will actually filed against the shooter.
