Kay Russell, 73

December 20, 1950  –  August 22, 2024

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Sandra Kay Russell, 73, of the Macedonia Community, who after a long illness passed peacefully from this world at home, in the place where she was born, surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

Her humble way of life and wise spirit easily positioned her as the matriarch of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose love for her family and friends was immeasurable. She was a pillar of strength in times of need, a source of comfort in times of sorrow, and a guiding light in moments of uncertainty. She was honest to a fault- sometimes even more so than we liked to hear.

The life that she led was a walking example of God’s love, touching the lives of her family, friends, neighbors, employees, and often even strangers. She lived with a spirit of generosity– always willing to meet any need that was laid before her. Throughout her life she made a difference in a countless number of lives whether through a helping hand, or by simply being a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on. Her prayers were a source of strength for so many people and her unwavering faith in God‘s plan brought peace and comfort to many.

She was a lifelong member of Cornersville Baptist Church, and attended services at Macedonia Baptist Church. She loved listening to many different sermons and hymns. She often traveled with her family and always had the best chicken and dressing ready for every holiday meal. She also loved her work family at Riverside Traffic Systems in New Albany, MS, where she had served as Owner and President since 1998, working first alongside her brother Booker Farr, and later with her daughter, Tracy, and grandson, Trent, and several other family members. She served on the board of directors for the Mississippi Road Builders Association, and was a member of the Alabama Road Builders Association, and the American Traffic Safety Services Association. She contributed to a countless number of organizations in our community over the years.

The love she had for her family was only second to the love she had for Christ. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was ready to answer the call Home. Her passion for the Word of God was infinite, and her vast knowledge and appreciation of the Bible, and for her family were a constant source of inspiration and joy to her.

Though we, as family and friends mourn her absence from our lives, we find solace in the knowledge that she has been made anew in the loving arms of her Creator, resting in His eternal peace. Kay leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, and of kindness and faith that will continue to inspire us and guide us. Her spirit lives on in the heart of all who were fortunate enough to know her and love her.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Clara Lee Boatner Farr, and her father, Gaston Boyd Farr. One sister Sara Farr Nix, and three brothers Billy Joe Farr, Bobby Eugene Farr and Preston Booker Farr, and her son-in-law, Heath Clark.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Clark, one grandson, Trent Lane Clark (Brittany), two great-grandchildren, Tristan Lane and Eleanor Kay Clark. One sister-in-law, Hattie Lou Farr, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews who she loved very much.

A visitation will be held at United Funeral Services on Monday, August 26 from 4 to 7 PM and a funeral service led by Brother David Grumbach will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at Macedonia Baptist Church at 11 o’clock, with a short visitation before the service from 10-11. She will be laid to rest at Cornersville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Farr, Steven Farr, Brad Farr, Hunter Farr, Bruce Farr, Richard Crisel, Larry Koon, and Leamon Martinez.

The employees of Riverside Traffic Systems are recognized as honorary Pallbearers.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the ladies of Companion Sitters, owned by Amy Deaton. A special thank you to Felisa Barkley, Neco Scales, Shaunetta Hoyle, Tomeia Potts-Hudson, Hazel and Markia Potts, Jessica Winston, and Grace Mathis for your compassionate care and dedication in taking care of Grandmama Kay throughout her illness.
