April 20, 1940 – February 25, 2026
Kenneth Glen McDonald, 85, of New Albany, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. McDonald will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2 PM in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care, with Bro. Mike Benefield officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care from 11 AM until time of service. Burial will follow in the Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born April 20, 1940, to the late Huey and Zera Smithey McDonald, Mr. McDonald was a faithful member of Oak View Baptist Church and the devoted husband of Sue May “Shug” McDonald, who survives, for sixty-one years. Together, he and “Shug” built a life centered on love, laughter and one simple goal, to have fun and make sure everyone around them was happy.
Mr. McDonald was a retired asphalt truck driver who proudly used the handle “Hard Hat” for many years. He also worked for Quartet Manufacturing before retiring over twenty years ago.
Full of love, laughter and joy, Mr. McDonald truly loved life. He cherished the outdoors and had a remarkable talent for building things, including his own home, furniture and countless other creations. His daughters will always remember the many sayings he was known for: “I don’t care what Uncle Billy said.” I’ve heard it all,” You talked me into that,” You doggone right,” and “You have to be a neighbor to have a neighbor.” But perhaps the most important phrase he lived by was “The main thing is to have fun.” “Shug” often did the worrying because nothing ever seemed to stress him. All he ever wanted was for his family to be loved and to enjoy life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family rests easily, knowing that Mr. McDonald is now in the arms of his loving Lord and Savior.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sue May “Shug” McDonald, three daughters, Lynn Still (James) of Batesville, Mississippi, Lisa Benefield (Mike) and Lee Gullick (Billy), both of New Albany, two brothers, Ralph McDonald of New Albany and James McDonald of Corinth, Mississippi, six beloved grandchildren, Courtney Stanford (Matt), Amber Smith (Blake), Andrew Benefield (Shannon), Christopher Carter (Amanda), Steven Carter (Amber), and Austin Gullick, and nine precious great-grandchildren who were the light of his life, Adalynn and Knox Carter, Paisley and Olivia Smith, Jamison and Mason Stanford, and Maci Jo, Talon and Harrison Carter.
The McDonald family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care provided to Mr. McDonald by Amber and McKayla and the entire Gentiva Hospice staff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clovis and Buddy McDonald and one sister, Joanne Butts.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Andrew Benefield, Chris Carter, Steven Carter, Austin Gullick, Billy Gullick, and Jamison Stanford.
