Lamar Hines, 66

May 29, 1959 – November 3, 2025

William “Lamar” Hines, 66, of New Albany, Mississippi, passed away on November 3, 2025, while out on his daily walk on a beautiful fall day — doing what he loved most, spending time outdoors.

Born and raised in New Albany, Lamar’s life took him across the country — from Longview to Jackson, Cincinnati to Eden Prairie — before bringing him back home to Mississippi, where his heart always belonged. He was a proud Mississippi State graduate and a loyal fan of the Bulldogs.

Lamar spent his career working hard and caring deeply for people. He began with Eastman Kodak and Procter & Gamble before returning to New Albany to work as an insurance agent with Farm Bureau. There, he became known as much for his compassion as his professionalism. He never met a stranger and had a rare way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and at ease. His clients and coworkers weren’t just customers — they were friends.

Lamar loved life outdoors. Whether he was hunting, hiking, or simply enjoying the sunshine, he found peace and joy in God’s creation. He was always up for a new adventure or a road trip, happiest when he could share it with the people he loved. His faith in Jesus was the steady center of his life, and he lived it out daily through his kindness and generosity. He was an attendee of The Orchard and a true example of quiet, steadfast faith.

Most of all, Lamar was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband to Teresa, a proud and caring father to Kristi (David) Barkstrom and Anna (Blake) Basting, and a doting “Pops” to his grandchildren, Amelia and Will. He is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Terry) Hines, and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Eloise Hines.

Lamar had a gift for bringing joy wherever he went. He was quick to laugh, easy to love, and impossible to forget. His presence made every place warmer, every day brighter, and every person he met feel like family.

Visitation will be held at United Funeral Home from 4-7pm Wednesday November 5th.

A celebration of Lamar’s life will be held at 1:00pm Thursday November 6th at United Funeral Home, with arrangements by United Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to Lamar’s heart.
