Larry Dannell Scales, 55

December 30, 1969 – October 22, 2025

Larry “Joby Bell” Dannell Scales, affectionately known by many as “Lynch Mob,” age 55, of Tupelo, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, surrounded by love at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice. Born on December 30, 1969, in Baldwyn, Mississippi, Joby was the beloved son of Clyde Bell, Jr. and the late Billie Jean Scales.

Joby lived life with a big heart and a bright smile that could light up any room. He graduated from Baldwyn High School and went on to build a life filled with laughter, friendship, and love. A proud Michigan sports fan, Joby could often be found cheering on his teams or spending weekends on the softball field with The Clowns, where competition and camaraderie always came hand in hand. He loved all kinds of music, never turned down a good dance, and found peace by the water with a fishing pole in hand.

Joby’s greatest joy, though, was his family. He adored his children and grandchildren, and he loved nothing more than being surrounded by them. He had a gift for making people feel special — for lifting spirits with a joke, a story, or just his genuine kindness. Joby had a heart for helping others and never hesitated to step up for those in need.

He is survived by his loving wife, Naneke Poindexter Scales; his devoted father, Clyde Bell, Jr.; his daughters Taquila Gilcrease (Eric), Shaniqua Scales, Billie Jean Scales (Jesse), Tamina Scales (Sylvester Chapman), and Nakkitas Scales; his sons Tyre Poindexter (Gabbrielle) and Deangelo Poindexter; his brother Johnny Scales; and his cousin, who was more like a sister, Tene Scales. He also leaves behind 24 beloved grandchildren and a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Jean Scales; his sister Angie Rodgers; his niece Quinn Rodgers; and his grandparents Jordan and Hettie Young and Clyde and Susie Bell.

Joby’s life will be celebrated on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Associated Family Funeral Home in Tupelo. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the time of service.

Though Joby’s earthly journey has ended, the love and laughter he brought into the world will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of joy, generosity, and boundless love.
