Larry Yager, 70

April 5, 1954 – December 12, 2024

Dr. Larry Dale Yager passed away on December 12, 2024, in New Albany, Mississippi, where his warmth and creativity had become an indelible part of the community. Born in Marianna, Mississippi on April 5, 1954, he infused his life with education, art, and the joy of music until the age of 70.

Larry earned his Doctorate of Education from the University of Mississippi, and dedicated a significant portion of his career to nurturing minds as a teacher for the Pontotoc County School System and as a valued Art instructor for gifted students. His passion for education was matched by his prowess as an accomplished artist, celebrated through his notable showings at the Union County Library.

Beyond his professional pursuits, he was an avid music lover who possessed the talent to express this love through the keys of the piano and the bellows of the pump organ. Friends remember his younger days of playfulness on the tennis courts.

His intelligence, creativity, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and these qualities were hallmarks of the life he lived.

Larry leaves behind a family who shared in his joys: his sisters, Mary Kathryn Moore of Ripley, TN, Kathy Heathcock of Finger, TN; his brothers, James Melvin Yager (Teresa) of New Albany, MS, Curtis Dewayne “Bo” Yager of Madisonville, TX, and Billy Yager (Patty) of Myrtle, MS, as well as his uncle, C. L. “Bud” Baughman. His life was enriched by the joy and company of several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Luther Yager, and his mother, Jackie Baughman Yager McNeely, and a brother, Charles Edward Yager.

Dr. Larry Dale Yager’s legacy of creativity, kindness, and intellectual curiosity will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed yet forever remembered with love and appreciation.
