Lawonda “Madge” Smith Jones, 83

Lawonda “Madge” Jones, age 83, passed away suddenly on July 17, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born on October 25, 1941, the beloved daughter of Dudley Smith and Esther Muriel Waldrop Smith.
In 1960, Madge married the love of her life, Bertis Martin Jones, and together they shared a joyful and devoted marriage until his passing on April 9, 2004.
Madge lived a quiet, meaningful life rooted in faith, love, and gratitude. A devoted Christian, she gave God the glory every step of the way. She found peace and happiness in life’s simple pleasures—especially in nature. Whether working in her garden or tending to her flowers, Madge felt most at home outdoors. Her love for the natural world was only surpassed by her deep and abiding love for her family.
She worked for many years in retail and was known for her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those around her. Madge was a loving mother, devoted grandmommy, cherished sister, and faithful friend. To know her was truly to love her. Her most treasured moments were spent surrounded by family.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony “Tony” Jones of Shannon and Michael Jones (Patricia) of Shannon; her sister, Shirley Mooneyhan; and her grandchildren: Jacob Jones of Shannon, Savannah Perry (Jason), Hillary Harmon (Tracy), Josh Jones of Shannon, Brandon Strong (Dr. Shekerra Strong) of Tupelo, Christin Jones Locastro of Mooreville, Nathan Jones (Britney) of Shannon, Brett Jones, and William Martin “Marty” Jones (Kellie).
She also leaves behind her daughters-in-love, Stephanie Jones and Enette Wiggington; many loving nieces and nephews; 18 great-grandchildren; and her cherished Chihuahua, Tinkerbell, along with several beloved cats who brought her daily comfort and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bertis Martin Jones; her son, Ricky Dale Jones; her brother, Ryndal Wayne Smith; and her grandparents, Jimmy & Elizabeth Russell Waldrop and Albert & Evy Winters Smith.
A service celebrating Madge’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Associated Family Funeral Home in Tupelo. Visitation will be held Monday evening, July 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service, all at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Shannon City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joel Smith, Marty Jones, Jacob Jones, Josh Jones, Christopher Locastro, and Joshua Jones II.
