Lee County Corrections Officers Attacked

Tupelo- On January 18, corrections officers working at the Lee County Jail were attacked. 20 year old Quartaveous K. Lyles was charged with 2 counts of simple assault on an officer. Correctional officers were alerted to inmates causing problems in a holding cell. When officers attempted to remove one inmate, another inmate blocked the door.

More officers responded to provide help getting the inmate restrained. During the scuffle one officer was punched in the head. Another officer suffered a broken ankle.

Sheriff Jim Johnson stated the condition of the Jail continued to place officers in harm’s way. Johnson also said that officers will not tolerate inmates causing harm to anyone.
