Les Sumner, 73

October 2, 1952  –  February 25, 2026

Leslie Edward Sumner, Jr., 73, passed away on February 25, 2026 at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. He was born on October 2, 1952, in Houston, MS to Leslie Edward Sumner, Sr. and Martha Ann Johnson Sumner.

Leslie was a hardworking and talented man. He was the owner of the Ritz Hair Design Group and later retired as Network Administrator for the New Albany School District. Whether in business or in technology, he brought dedication, skill, and integrity to everything he did.

Music was one of Leslie’s lifelong passions. As a longtime member of the Paul Rainey Band, he shared his love of music with friends and community members over the years. He was knowledgable, gifted, and creative–a man who could cook a wonderful meal, work on cars with ease, and fix just about anything that needed fixing.

Leslie was the devoted husband of Sandra Mattox Sumner, whom he loved deeply and faithfully. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, friendship, and enduring love.

He was the proud father of Laura Roberts (Casey) of Ripley and Lesley Anne Weaver (Corey) of Tupelo. His greatest joy in life was being “Poppy” to his five adored grandchildren: Ellie, Stella, Sara, Koley, and Meeli. They were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He is survived by his siblings Marsha Sumner of Nashville and Nannette Ballard (Robert) of New Albany.

Above all, Leslie loved his family, his music, and his God. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he lived his life with quiet strength and steady devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, music, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Ballard, Jack Ballard, Marshall Ballard, Robert Ballard, Ben Creekmore, Bill Mattox, Mike McCullough, and Bobby Ositis.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Paul Rainey Band.
