New Albany cleanup day fills garbage truck to overflowing

Community Development officials said they had a good cleanup day Saturday, thanks to favorable weather and one of the largest participations in recent years.

Both individuals and groups met at the Union County Heritage Museum to pick up garbage bags and get assignments for those who had not already selected areas to clean.

Park areas and highway interchanges received particular attention.

Enough trash was collected to more than fill one of the city’s garbage trucks parked at the library parking lot.

At noon, everyone returned to the museum for lunch provided by the Historic Northside Garden Club.

The event is held in conjunction with The Great American Cleanup and Keep America Beautiful programs.

Civic Center Manager Emily Draffen coordinated the event.
