Local Girls crowned Miss & Miss Teen New Albany 2022
By Kendall Stancil
Miss New Albany and Miss Teen New Albany for 2022 were crowned Sunday, January 9, in a pageant at the Magnolia Civic Center.
The New Albany Main Street Association and the Magnolia Civic Center hosted the event.
The pageant is a scholarship competition. The two young ladies chosen will serve as the voice and face of New Albany Tourism. Miss New Albany and Miss Teen New Albany will help promote local business, welcoming groups who visit the city and, throughout the year, participate in city events and activities.
The scholarships awarded are sponsored by the local business and members of the community. These scholarships awarded range from $100 to $1,500 and are for a Mississippi community college or Mississippi university.
Throughout the evening contestants participated in categories such as introduction, street wear and evening gown. In the Miss New Albany event there was also an interview session that was judged.
At the end of the judging, before the awards were given, 2021’s reigning Miss New Albany Becca Childers and the 2021 Miss Teen New Albany Macie Phifer said their farewells.
