Local Republicans prepared for state convention

,
New Albany, MS – The officers of the Union County Republican Committee met Thursday afternoon in New Albany to prepare for the party’s state convention Saturday, May 14th, in Jackson.
GOP county delegations will meet starting Saturday morning at the Hilton Jackson on County Line Road.
The state Republican convention will decide whom to send as delegates to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention, July 18-21, at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
Union County Republican Chairman Clay Hardy said that, regardless of what individuals are named to go to Ohio for the party’s national convention, the majority of the Mississippi delegates will be obligated to support presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump on the first ballot, and a minority will be pledged on the first ballot to Ted Cruz, who has withdrawn from the presidential race since the Mississippi Republican primary.

Officers other than Hardy at the Thursday meeting were Sue Morrison, the county Republican committee vice-chairman, and Evelyn Mason, the secretary for the county committee
