Lois Spiese, 91

November 20, 1934  –  January 7, 2026

Lois Jacqueline Huston Spiese departed her earthly life on January 7, 2026. Lois was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1934 to the late Mr. George Thompson Huston and Mrs. Anna Mae Bemesderfer Huston. She was an only child. Lois is survived by her two children. Son, Thomas Duane Spiese (Judy) of Taipei, Taiwan. Daughter, Tanya Elizabeth Benefield (Tim) of New Albany, Mississippi.

Lois was a graduate of Hempfield High School, class of 1953 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In her fifties, she returned to college attending Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee earning her Bachelor of Elementary Education degree. She continued her education at Union University, also in Jackson, Tennessee.

After graduation in 1987, she and her daughter moved to Germantown, Tennessee where she started teaching in the Memphis City Schools in 1989. She retired in 2007 making New Albany her home.

Lois was a faithful member of First Methodist Church of New Albany. Previously serving as President of the United Methodist Women, volunteered with Camp Sonshine, was part of the Ladies Bible Study group. Lois was also an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, decorating her home during the holidays, watching Hallmark movies, keeping up with the Penn State Lions football team, watching the birds & squirrels from her kitchen window, and feeding her family for “Happy Day” on Wednesday nights. Lois was a friend to so many. She never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at United Funeral Service with Rev. Dr. Chris Carter officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the nurses at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Union County as well as Gentiva Hospice staff who have taken wonderful care of her.
