Loretta Virginia Chunn Easly, 94
July 2, 1931 – December 28, 2025
Loretta Virginia Chunn Easly, age 94, and most lovingly known as Mamaw Granny to all who adored her most, entered into the presence of her dear Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, surrounded by the love of her family.
Services honoring this precious lady’s life will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, January 1, 2026, in the Chapel of New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care, with visitation from 11 AM until the time of service. Bro. James Wells will officiate. Burial will follow in Keownville Cemetery.
Born July 2, 1931, in Tippah County, Mrs. Loretta was the daughter of the late Leroy and Opha Bullock Chunn. She received her education from Buena Vista School and later married the love of her life, the late James Paul Easley. Together, they built a home anchored in faith, love, and simple Christian values—raising their children, working hard, and cherishing every blessing the Lord placed in their path. For many years, she served as a librarian at the Union County Library and later worked with the New Albany Gazette, always demonstrating a gentle spirit and kind heart wherever she went.
A devoted Christian and a true Proverbs 31 woman, Mrs. Loretta lived her faith boldly. She read her Bible daily, prayed with unwavering confidence, and never lost sight of God’s promises. She found joy in the simplest blessings—crocheting with a quiet grace, tending to her yard, and playing the piano. At one time, she played at five different churches, using her God-given talent to glorify Him. Some of her greatest joys were found on the front porch, where grandchildren would gather as she played hymns, laughter rolled through the air, and voices rose in song.
Her kitchen was a place of love and legacy—homemade biscuits, coconut cakes, and her cherished tomato soup will forever live on in the memories of those she served. More than anything, family was her heartbeat. They were her pride, her purpose, and her greatest earthly joy.
Mrs. Loretta lived a full and fruitful life—ninety-four years marked by kindness, grace, resilience, and a deep and steadfast faith. Though her gentle presence and sweet spirit will be missed beyond measure, her family rests in the blessed assurance of where she is. Mamaw Granny is home. She has been made whole, restored, and welcomed into the arms of her Savior—the One she trusted, served, and loved so dearly. Today, she worships in Glory, her faith made sight, and her joy complete.
“Well done, thy good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
Those left to cherish her memoires include her daughter, Virgina Anne Glidewell (Rickey), one son, Paul David Easley, one brother, John Daniel Chunn, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Loretta was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Chunn, and Edward Chunn, and one great great grandson, Jacob Pitts.
