Anna Louise Swords Oaks, known lovingly as Sis, passed away on September 13, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi, at the age of 88.
Louise was born on December 3, 1937, in New Albany, Mississippi, in the Lone Star Community, to E.L. Swords and Bettie Jenkins Swords, both of whom preceded her in death. She lived her life in the community that knew her best, and she carried with her throughout her years the values of hard work, faith, devotion, and kindness. She was a Christian woman whose life reflected a steady spirit and a generous heart.
Louise was a Licensed Practical Nurse and devoted many years to caring for others. She was a loving and caring nurse who worked at Baptist Hospitals and in nursing homes, throughout her career, and she took great pride in her work. She also loved private duty nursing, where her compassion and dedication could be felt most personally. Her patients and those around her knew her as someone who served with patience, dignity, and sincere concern for the well-being of others.
In addition to her nursing career, Louise found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. She loved cooking and spent many happy hours working in her flower beds and keeping a beautiful, well-groomed lawn. Her home reflected the care she gave to everything she touched. She especially cherished family gatherings, where laughter, conversation, and togetherness brought her great happiness. Above all, she loved raising her three sons and made sure they lacked for nothing. She was deeply devoted to them and took great pride in the family she nurtured. She also adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them.
Louise will be remembered as a loving, passionate, and thoughtful woman. Her presence brought comfort, and her example left a lasting impression on those who knew her. She had a strong sense of responsibility, a caring nature, and a quiet strength that carried her through life with grace. Her family and friends will remember her warmth, her devotion, and the steady love she gave so freely.
She is survived by her sons, Terry Oaks, Freddie Oaks, Jr., and Gary Oaks, as well as her grandchildren, Michaela Oaks, Joshua Oaks, Rucia Oaks, and Zechariah Oaks. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews that she also loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings, Luther Swords, James Swords, Cecil Swords, Dorothy Merritt, Edna Holcomb, Ralph Swords, Billy Swords, and William Swords.
Louise’s life was one of service, faith, and family. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and commitment that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
Services to honor her life will be Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 2:00 pm at United Funeral Service with a visitation beginning at 12:00 pm until service time. Bro. Tim McMillen and Bro. Keith Benefield will officiate with memories shared by her great niece, Angela Atwell. The Northeast MS Nurse Honor Guard will honor Ms. Oaks nursing career. Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc, MS.
