Maggie Cora McCarter Goree, 97
December 11, 1926 – July 27, 2024
Mrs. Maggie Cora McCarter Goree, first- born daughter, a loving mother, sister, and grandmother was born on December 11, 1926, in Crawford, Mississippi to William B. McCarter and Mary Lathan.
She was reared and educated in Crawford, Mississippi and later moved to Okolona, Mississippi to attend Okolona College.
This is where she met and married John Albert Goree in 1948. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Mississippi Industrial College/ Rust College in Holly Springs, MS.
Mrs. Maggie Goree became a beloved educator in the Lee County School System for many years. After retiring, she embraced the loving role of grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, and taking pictures.
Mrs. Maggie Goree was a devoted member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many organizations. To name a few, she was a member of the Choir, Missionary Society, chairperson of floral and decorating committee, and a member of Ministers and Deacon Wives’ Alliance. Her love for her church was unconditional. Humbly served with her whole heart.
Mrs. Maggie was family and community oriented and an excellent educator that went beyond the classroom. Her love was shown in more ways than one. Always encouraging everyone to do their best and to be faithful in Christ. She did not mind saying what she meant and meant what she said. Never meeting a stranger, if you were in her presence, you were always greeted with a warm heart, a bright smile, and welcoming love.
Preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Goree, her son John Alford Goree, and her sister, Mary B. McCarter.
Her memories will be cherished by her children, Thurman Delancy Goree, Mary Wilson (Joseph), William Goree (Patricia ), Danny Goree, and Rodney Goree. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins will miss and cherish her beloved hugs and kisses.
She will be missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
