Main Street Association’s July Shop the Block – a hot ticket
Although New Albany Main Street Association’s “Shop the Block” event on Thursday evening drew cloudy skies and temperatures in the 90’s, there was a good deal of activity. With the street closed for the event, food trucks and other vendors lined the middle of Bankhead Street. Cool treats were welcome.
A drive through the off-street parking areas turned up a great many autos from Union County and several surrounding counties. But the hot weather meant that many visitors spent as much time as possible in downtown New Albany’s air conditioned shops.
There was not the usual lively amount of chatting and visiting visible out on the streets that is generally seen at such events. We Mississippians know how to deal with hot, humid weather.
Live music was provided by Senseless and there were family activities available.
The July “Shop the Block” after-hours shopping was in support of the Helping Hands of Union County. The June event helped Main Street Partners provide a donation of over $1400 to the Boys and Girls Club of New Albany. The next “Shop the Block” will be on Thursday August 25th, from 5-7PM.
