The New Albany Main Street Association is jumping into June with community events for all ages and a variety of interests. Director of Main Street, Billye Jean Stroud, said, “I want to personally invite everybody out to enjoy our beautiful town this month. We are joined by many hard-working groups of people who have put together events that are aimed at encouraging people to support local growers, businesses, and organizations.”

Thursday, June 6 is Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market Opening Day, 4-7 pm. Fresh, local produce, live music from George McConnell, and knife sharpener Clay Goolsby at the Main Street Demo Booth. The Farmers’ Market will be open every Thursday, 4-7 pm from June 6 through August 1 (with the exception of July 4).Main Street will have a guest in the Demo Booth every month. Free Sugaree’s Biscuits and Jam will go to the first 50 customers. Enjoy live music and special events for Children’s Nights on June 6, July 11, and Aug 1.

Friday, June 7 is the Main Street Association’s 3rd Annual Unwine’d & Walk Downtown. Over twenty Main Street Member retail shops and restaurants will be open from 6-10 pm. Snacks, wine samples, and refreshing soft drinks will be served. Tickets are $15 and are available at Sugaree’s Bakery, Two Doors Down, the Main Street office, and online at newalbanymainstreet.com

Friday June 27 thru 29 is FREEDOM FEST weekend. Musicians will be ROCKIN’ on the RIVER over the course of three days at the Farmers’ Market, the Trailhead Plaza, and at the Riverview Stage. Featured events are the classic SAM MOSLEY MUSIC SHOWCASE, the 3rd Annual PEDALING for HOPE BIKE RIDE, the first ever BLACKBERRY JUBILEE featuring a pageant, pancake breakfast, and marketplace with makers and info vendors, kid zone, cornhole tournaments, and a resurgence of the bbq cookoff, SMOKE on the WATER. All with a touch of blackberries, of course! Stroud and her assistant, Tracy Vainisi, are hoping to have locals get involved with some friendly competition. “Anyone who wants to sign up for any of Freedom Fest’s Saturday competitive events can stop by or call the Main Street office or check things out online at newalbanymainstreet.com,” said Vainisi. She added, “We have been working with local blackberry grower Robert Hays and are looking forward to a fun day in the best southern small town.”
