The New Albany Main Street Association and their Downtown & Around retail stores invite everyone to come on out for back-to-school shopping. Store owners will be offering a variety of specials throughout the weekend. Some of the member retailers will be giving shoppers the chance to donate 10% of their purchases made on regular priced items to the New Albany and Union County School District campus of their choice. Leann Manning Murphy, owner of Obsessions Boutique, offered this option last year during the back-to-school, tax free weekend. “It was a great way to encourage the community to shop local while giving back to the schools,” said Murphy. For a list of those shops that are participating in the donation opportunity, readers can go to the events details page at newalbanymainstreet.com. The New Albany Main Street Association will also be posting up-to-date specials and promotions for individual stores on their Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.

“Shopping local has many benefits for our community,” expressed Main Street Director, Billye Jean Stroud. “Consumers are able to find a better assortment of products close to home, jobs are created, relationships are nurtured, and local shop owners are more likely to keep their profits circulating back into our local economy, which directly benefits the entire community.”

Additionally, the 2018 Mississippi Sales Tax Holiday takes place between 12:01am, Friday, July 27 and 12:00 midnight Saturday, July 28. On these dates, you can purchase qualified items free of Mississippi state sales tax: clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item.
