Martha Lamar, 92

July 11, 1933 – August 1, 2025

Martha Jane Kitchens Lamar, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, in Tupelo, MS, at the age of 92. Born on July 11, 1933, in New Albany, Martha lived a life marked by dedication, service, and the love of her family and community.

Martha was the beloved daughter of the late Ben David Kitchens and Dagma Huggins Kitchens. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Ray Allen Lamar, and her brother, Ben Allen Kitchens. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive by her nephew David Kitchens and his wife Trisha, her great-great-nephew Will Mayo, whom she raised and held dear to her heart, and the many nieces and nephews who were blessed to know her.

A proud graduate of Draughon’s Business College in Memphis, TN, Martha’s educational achievements laid the foundation for a successful career. She retired from Union County Baptist Hospital, as administrative assistant and was respected for her professionalism and work ethic. Martha’s commitment to her career was paralleled only by her dedication to her faith and community.

Martha was a devout Christian and an active member of the First Methodist Church, where she participated in the Margorie Houston Sunday School. Her involvement with the Pilot Club, Junta Club, and United Methodist Women exemplified her commitment to service and fellowship. Even after retirement, Martha continued to volunteer in her church office, contributing her time and skills to the place that was central to her life.

Her interests were as varied as they were passionate. Martha loved her church, relished her “season tickets” to the theater, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her presence at church events and her enthusiasm for the arts were sources of inspiration to those around her.

Services to honor her life will be on Sunday, August 3, at 4:00PM at First Methodist Church in New Albany officiated by Rev. Chris Carter and visitation will be before the service from 2:00 – 4:00 also at the Church. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park.
