Mary Dill Smith, 88
December 18, 1936 – October 10, 2025
Mooreville- Mary Magalene Dill Smith, age 88, passed away on October 10, 2025 at NMMC. She was born on December 18, 1936, to Coy Dill and Icelee Knox Dill.
After her birth at NMMC, Mary was raised in Mantachie until she married Virgil Smith in 1955 and moved to Mooreville. She shared 64 years with her husband until he passed away in 2016. Mary was a watchmaker and jeweler until retiring in 1990.
Mary will be remembered as a loving and nurturing woman whose kindness touched those she met. She had a generous heart and an open door: No one ever left her home hungry. She always insisted you take food home with you “just in case” because she never wanted anyone to ever know what hunger felt like. Mary was an excellent cook and was legendary among her family and friends, and her kitchen was a center of countless memories filled with laughter, love and good food.
She had a real passion for all things outdoors especially for gardening. She took great pride in her beautiful flowers, which reflected the care and patience she poured into everything she did. Mary also was a self taught pianist and her children have fond memories of hearing her sing and play tunes out in the den. She was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church and attended until her health no longer permitted. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in her adult years and was a kind and warm person.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She built a life rooted in love, faith and family. Her legacy of warmth, faith, and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Kathie Haskett (Wayne Haskett) and Joyce Paden. Grandchildren: Heather Haskett, John Harbin, Kristen Wilson (Blaine Wilson), and Brianna Paden. Great-Grandchildren: Kylie Ann Harbin, Taylor Michele Harbin and Lillian Jade Wilson. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Coy and Icelee Dill, husband, Virgil Smith, grandson Michael Jason Brown, great-grandson Josiah John Michael Petry.
