Mary Lynn Roberts Rakestraw, 75

Mary Lynn Roberts Rakestraw passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024, at the age of 75 in Pontotoc, MS. Born on May 17, 1949, in Lee County, Mississippi, Mary was a beacon of love and gentleness to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of simple pleasures.



Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger Rakestraw, her father, Lindsey Eugene Roberts, her mother, Mary Ozell Dillard Roberts, her son, Reid Rakestraw, and her daughter, Mary Bryan. She is survived by her loving daughters, Martha Simmons (Jeff) and Shana Rakestraw, her cherished 12 grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Hall, Marshall Bryan, Morgan Hogue, Krystal Simmons, Mackenzie Simmons, Bridgette Holland, Grover Ratliff, Faith Robinson Butler, Chandler Pickens, Sam Lewis, Tanner Rakestraw, and Teddy Rose Rakestraw, and her adored 17 great-grandchildren.

Mary’s life was one of service and care, both within her family and in her professional life. As a homemaker, she created a warm and welcoming home where laughter and love were always in abundance. She also shared her skills and dedication with Brookwood Furniture and Barclay Furniture, where she worked as a sewer, contributing to the beauty and comfort of countless homes.

Her interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. Mary had a passion for collecting buttons, each one a small treasure that spoke to her sense of beauty and history. She also found joy in collecting rocks, swimming, and dancing. Mary’s love for taking care of others was evident in every aspect of her life, from her family to her friends and even to strangers who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

Those who knew Mary will remember her as a loving, gentle, and friendly soul. Her smile could light up a room, and her kindness knew no bounds. She had the rare ability to make everyone feel special and loved, and her legacy of love will live on through the many lives she touched.

As we say goodbye to Mary, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that gave so much to so many. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Chad Roberts officiating. Visitation will be that morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
