Maybellene Montgomery Kirk passed away peacefully at her residence in Nesbit, Mississippi, surrounded by her family, on July 9, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on August 8, 1927, in Etta, Mississippi, Maybellene’s life was a tapestry of gentle strength and enduring affection.



Maybellene’s journey began as a graduate of Pinedale School, where she laid the foundation for a life of learning and growth. Her professional path led her to work for Holiday Inn and, later, to a fulfilling career from which she retired at JC Penney. Maybellene’s work ethic and dedication to her roles were a testament to her character, and she left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside her.

Her creative spirit shone brightly through her love of embroidery, a craft through which she expressed her artistic talents and created countless treasures for her family and friends. Maybellene also found solace and joy in working in her flower garden, nurturing beauty in the world around her.

Maybellene’s legacy is carried on by her loving daughters, Sylvia Francine Jackson (Richard) and Michelle Kirk Jefferies (Russ); her daughters-in-law, Tesa Kirk and Margie Kirk; her cherished grandchildren: Tommy Kirk (Shelia), Kenny Kirk (Michelle), Dawn Jackson, Amy Jackson (Jason), Melissa Huddleston (Mike), Jessica Jefferies Lummus (Josh), and Brandon Jefferies (Cadie); her sixteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; and her cousin, Charley Rutledge. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kennell (Budgy) Kirk; her sons, Gwen Terry Kirk and Tony Montgomery Kirk; her granddaughter, Terri Lynn Kirk Moore; her sister, Earline Tyer; and her brother, J.C. Montgomery.

Maybellene’s life was a portrait of loving kindness, her gentle touch and warm presence leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated by her family, friends, and all the lives she touched with her gentle spirit. Maybellene Montgomery Kirk will be deeply missed, yet her legacy of love and creativity will continue to bloom like the flowers in her garden, for generations to come.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024 with Dr. Roger Stacy officiating. All times will be at United Funeral Service. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Etta.
