MDOT puts up new Tanglefoot signs

New signs showing motorists access routes to the Tanglefoot Trail are being erected this week by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

An MDOT sign crew from Jackson and their equipment are working along Highway s 15 and 78 in Union, Pontotoc and Chickasaw counties installing reflective signs with white letters on a brown background. The signs indicate exits and turns to help people find their way to the trail. MDOT specialists Leander Johnson and Bill Adams say they are erecting fifteen of the new directional signs.

The Tanglefoot Trail opened two years ago and has become a major destination for bicyclists and hikers from near and far. The trailhead in downtown New Albany has been the catalyst for a substantial rejuvenation of the downtown shopping area. New businesses providing services for visitors have opened at the trailhead across the street from the New Albany City Hall.

Tanglefoot Trail is a 10-foot wide paved road restricted to foot traffic and non-motorized vehicles. It is 44 miles long and follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way.
