Meet the Teams events to kick off new school year at Northeast
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Two events that showcase the passion and support for Northeast Mississippi Community College’s athletic department are on the docket for the first two weeks of the new school year.
The volleyball program will introduce its players to the public on Tuesday, August 20 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the quad area on campus between McCoy Hall, Ramsey Hall and the Haney Union.
The eighth edition of Meet the Tigers for the football team is set for Monday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the “triangle,” which is located across Main Street from Renasant Bank in downtown Booneville.
Volleyball’s preseason party was moved outdoors as Northeast’s maintenance staff continues to put the finishing touches on the latest round of renovations to legendary Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
A temporary net system will be set up in the grass to use for fan engagements such as serving and relay games. The Lady Tigers will show off some of their skills as well such as hitting and setting.
“It’s going to be a great activity even though we won’t be on the inside,” said Lady Tigers head coach Brenda Mayes. “Taking into consideration that we have 10 new players, it’s an opportunity for the student body and the community to come and meet them personally.”
The Showband from Tigerland and the Tiger Dancers will provide entertainment both nights. Their halftime performance for the upcoming season is entitled “Femme Fatale.”
Northeast’s cheerleading squad, which is under the direction of tenth-year coach Chasity Moore, and Spirit the Tiger mascot will also make their official 2024-25 debuts on these special evenings.
Schedule posters for both teams will be available at their respective shindigs. The festivities wrap up each night with an autograph session featuring Northeast’s student-athletes.
“It’s a good time and a fun time,” Tigers headman Greg Davis said. “It helps us kick off this beautiful thing we call football by interacting with our families, the band and the excellent people in our community.”
Football christens its 65th season all-time by hosting East Central Community College and Southwest Mississippi Community College in consecutive weeks beginning on Thursday, August 29.
The first of eight total home matches for volleyball in its second year at Northeast is slated for Tuesday, September 3 against Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University’s junior varsity program.
