Melba Bryant Pugh, 91, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Pontotoc Nursing Home. She was born May 30, 1927, in Pontotoc County to Wellard C. and Bonnie Sue Vaughn Bryant. She was a member of First Baptist Church in New Albany and had been since she was 17 years old. She was a member of Kathryn Dye’s Sunday School class. She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and her family. Her father was a Baptist preacher and founded 4 churches. She had served as caretaker at Haven Hills Personal Care Home. She visited each patient every day. She loved the patients and they loved her. She was affectionately known as ‘The Angel of Haven Hills’. She was a retired housewife and co-owner of Pugh Tackle Co. She enjoyed her work and especially working with the other employees. She was a great influence on hundreds of young people.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Cindy Mitchell (Randy) of New Albany and Cissy Cox (Bill) of Blue Mountain; 1 son: Joe Pugh (Denise) of New Albany; 5 grandchildren: Josh Smyrl, Millie Mitchell, Jed Mitchell, Courtney Pugh, and Kristen Cox; and 11 great-grandchildren: Presley Kate Mitchell, Kera Beth Mitchell, Hayes Hemby, Macon Hemby, McKinley Pugh, Colton Pugh, Braden Pugh, Elisha Smyrl, Katie Smyrl, Scarlett Cheatwood, and Jemma Cheatwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Tunney Pugh; and 9 brothers and sisters.
