Visitation will be held from 12 PM until time of service on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home. A private burial will follow.
Born October 27, 1956, in Shelby County, Tennessee, to the late Samuel E. Lackey and Nancy Ruth Boulton Roberts, he received his education through the Treadwell School System in Memphis. A Christian by faith, Mike worked as a night watchman in is earlier years, which brought him to meet the love of his life.
Later, Mike met Christy Vinson, who was working as a waitress at the time, and he soon found himself enjoying nearly fifteen pots of coffee a day as they took every opportunity to get to know each other better. In 2001, determined not to let him get away, Christy proposed with a ring fashioned from a napkin, a story the family cherished. Mike and Christy became team drivers for Vascor Transport, a role they proudly shared for fifteen years. Traveling the roads together with their dogs became their greatest passion.
Mike was a true car man at heart, with a special love for Mopars, enjoying every aspect of restoring them. He believed in living well and never hesitated to spend money on what he felt was the best. A self-proclaimed germaphobe, Mike took table manners seriously, no smacking and absolutely no elbows on the table.
Due to an accident in his early years, Mike had only his index finger and thumb on his left hand, affectionately known by his children as “the claw.” His grip was legendary and strong enough to bring tears to their eyes. Mike loved to aggravate anyone at any time, yet he would give the shirt off his back, though he would never let you forget it. If Mike called and you didn’t answer, rest assured, he would keep calling until you did.
Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his loving wife of twenty-four years, Christy, three daughters, Brittany Lackey (Dustin Caradine), of Tennessee, Shelly Bell (Jonathan) of Arkansas, and Christina Brookshire (Dustin) of Tennessee, two sons, Mike “Brinn” Lackey of Memphis, and Daniel Lackey (Ashley) of Ashland, Mississippi, one brother, Samuel Gene Lackey (Linda) of Memphis, three stepsons, Bryan Young (Shelby), Ryan Young and Austin Young, all of Hickory Flat, Mississippi, fourteen grandchildren, Joe Lackey, Bella and Zoey Robinson, Joseph Rowland, Willow and Jayden Lackey, Noah and Connor Bell, Dakota and Braxton Lackey, Anastasia, Kinsley, and James Young, and Jodi Leighann Young, one nephew, Matt Lackey, two nieces, Stacey and Paige Lackey, his dear friends, Mike Streivel, Joyce Allen, and Jackie Hopper, and his two loyal canine truck-driving companions, Tucker and Dixie.
Along with his parents, Mike is preceded in death by one brother, William Boulton Lackey.
