Michael “Mike” Dale Thomas, 71

New Albany-“Mike” Michael Dale Thomas, 71, departed this life on February 1, 2023, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born September 13, 1951 to “DR” Denson Ray and Opal Christine Thomas. A lifelong master machinist and welder, he retired from Super Sagless in 2014 where he was a robot technician. Following retirement, he enjoyed fishing and later helping at Wright Glass, his daughter and son-in-law’s business. However, he was known as “Iron Mike” for his welding abilities, being a great cook and his ability to grow tomatoes.. lots of tomatoes. He attended Center Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m. Monday, February 6, 2023 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jared Busby officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00p.m. until service time. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
Mike is survived by his wife of fifty years, Joyce Marie Culver Thomas; two daughters, Paula Marie Underwood and Donna Elizabeth Gafford (Eddie), both of New Albany; one sister, Betty Derrick (Junior) of Ripley, MS; and two grandchildren, “Penny” Penelope Rose Underwood and Willis Abel Gafford.
