Minnie Myrtle “Myrt” Stone, 77

March 5, 1948 – August 11, 2025

Tupelo- Minnie Myrtle Staples Stone, at age 77, departed this life for her eternal home in Heaven August 11, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in the Palmetto Community to the significant Staples family, she was the daughter of the late J. C. Staples and Irene Westmoreland Staples. She professed her faith at an early age at Blackland MB Church in the Palmetto Community and went on to graduate high school and marry George Stone, Sr., now deceased.

Born with solid values, Myrt-as she was often called was not afraid of work and responsibility. She worked at Tecumseh Products for several years before becoming employed at Cooper Tire and Rubber where she remained for 22 years. A lady with a special heart and loving soul, Minnie became a caregiver caring for, sitting with and encouraging the elderly for the remainder of her life, a special talent given to her by God.

Blessed with a beautiful voice, she loved to sing in church. At her death, she was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo. She loved her children supremely, doted over her grandchildren and encouraged her many nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Myrt.

Minnie Myrtle, known by many simply as Myrt, lived a purpose-filled life. Hers was filled with love, joy, longsuffering, justice, equality and contentment. She loved her Lord and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. Well Done, good and faithful servant.

Myrt is survived by her 3 children, Jacqueline Denise Stone of Tupelo, MS, George Ulysses Stone and wife, Tiffany Elise Stone of Tupelo, MS, Anthony Fitzgerald Stone of Houston, Texas, godson Dalarion Traylor of Tupelo, MS, her 3 grandchildren, Antonio Stone, Matthew Stone, and Nicholas Stone, her great grandchildren, Emorie Stone and Lauren Stone, her 3 siblings, Samuel Staples, Carolyn Martin, and Floyd Staples and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Irene Westmoreland Staples and Charlie Jordan Staples (JC Staples). Her late husband, George Stone Senior. Her child, Jeremiah Stone, and siblings, Charles Staples, Carnell Staples, and Eartha Bradley. A full obituary will follow in the coming days.
