MS Covid-19 update 27APR20: though slowing, MS passes 6000 cases
About the case count: The MS Department of Health currently updates its map and statistics each morning with test results from the previous day that were reported by 6:00 PM that day. Outside laboratories also report positive test results, which are included the totals. County case numbers and deaths may change as investigation finds new or additional information.

Reported April 27, 2020:
Today MSDH is reporting 183 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 2 new deaths. Mississippi’s total COVID-19 cases since March 11 now stands at 6094 with 229 deaths.
- The number of Mississippians currently hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 infection fell to 373 on April 26.
- 142 of those hospitalized were in ICU units, with 71 reportedly on ventilators
- Highest reported ICU usage was April 8, 2020 with 210 patients; 123 of them were on ventilators.
Northeast MS statistics by county as of April 26, 2020
Northeast MS reported 26 new positive Covid-19 cases in 5 counties. There was 1 additional death in NE Miss. However, because Lee County has adjusted its Covid-19 deaths downward by one, the area’s total still stands at 41 deaths in 12 counties.
About Northeast MS long term/residential care facilities:
- 207 (31%) of Northeast Mississippi’s positive coronavirus cases are now known to be in 12 long term/residential care facilities in 8 counties.
- 17 (41.4%) of Northeast Mississippi’s 41 coronavirus deaths have been in 6 (or less) long term/residential care facilities.
