Museum draws a full house for Mr & Mrs Claus, musicians, artisans, crafters, games, waffles and more at Christmas event
Santa picked a beautiful day for this year’s stop at the Union County Heritage Museum. His fans had a lot to enjoy, thanks to the Historic Northside Garden Club, The Anchol Club, the Tallahatchie Suzuki Associaton, and the Museum’s Community Partners. As is the case for most of the Museum’s presentations, Santa at the Museum is free and open to anyone who wishes to participate.
Hundreds of folks enjoyed this year’s celebration.
There were 20 themed Christmas trees scattered throught the building, a room full of exotic animals decked out for the holidays, live music from the Tallahatchie Suzuki Association students, games, crafts and scavenger hunt fun – not to mention waffles and hot chocolate to enjoy when taking a break from the activities. A pop-up market offered a variety of items from baked goods to watercolors, ceramics, carvings and other creative works produced by local artisans.
Families were welcome to take their own photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus with no charge, and all photos taken by Santa’s helper can be downloaded free from Santa’s FaceBook page. (see information at the end of the post for directions to the FB page.)
For more than 20 years, families have come from all over the area to celebrate the Christmas season at New Albany’s extraordinary museum. Museum Director Jill Smith, her staff and network of countless community volunteers spend untold hours planning, decorating, organizing and overseeing all the details necessary to present an event that has become a highly anticipated part of the Christmas season for many families.
Parents, older siblings, grandparents, even great grandparents never tire of watching their youngest family members react, not only to their visits with Santa, but also to the tremendous variety of other sights, sounds, and activities that are a part of the Christmas season.
Our community is blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy such a multi-faceted celebration of Christmas traditions. This is but one of dozens of opportunities provided by the Union County Heritage Museum and its supporters as part of its goal of putting a spotlight on the varied stories, abilities and accomplishments that comprise the history and heritage of our area.
