Myrtle officials sworn into office for another four years

The Town of Myrtle’s elected officials took their oaths of office before the first meeting of the new term starting July 1.

Because all of the incumbents, and only the incumbents, qualified to run for office, no election was necessary.

Continuing to serve for the next four years will be Mayor Micheal Canerday and Aldermen Milton McDonald, Cynthia Parks, Dustin Rasberry, Teresa Smith and Sean Wiginton.

Although it was not a factor in this case, Myrtle is exempt from the new law requiring a candidate to live in the political subdivision he or she wants to represent for the previous two years. That law only applies to municipalities with population over 1,000.

Obviously, the current officials have lived in the town for the past four years.

Micheal Canerdy is sworn in for a new term as mayor of the Town of Myrtle.
