New city wastewater treatment plant nearing completion
This is the latest look at the city’s approximately $15 million wastewater treatment plant being constructed north of New Albany across the Tallahatchie River.
It is expected to be ready for operation this summer or early fall and is being paid for using a USDA grant along with a loan that will be repaid through utility user fees.
The large holding and treatment pools and other equipment will replace the current plant between West Bankhead Street and I-22, across a tree line from Tallahatchie Trails.
While moving the plant will remove many order and image problems, there will still be a need to have a pump at the old site and possibly one pool for emergency use.
