Nadine Childers Hurt, 83

February 12, 1942 – May 29, 2025

Nadine Childers Hurt, 83, of Ripley, Mississippi, was born on February 12, 1942, and peacefully completed her earthly journey on May 29, 2025.

A celebration of her life will be at 1 PM Monday June 2, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with visitation from 11 AM until time of service. Burial will follow in the Golden Hill Cemetery. Family and Friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a woman who had a lot to say, a lot to give, and rarely missed a detail, or football game.

Born into this world on February 12, 1942, Nadine was the daughter of the late Ray and Lonna Hill Childers. She received her education from the Buena Vista School and was “retired” from Piper Impact two decades ago, but never really stopped working. She filled her days checking in on neighbors, sitting with the sick or elderly, and keeping tabs on everyone—whether they knew it or not. She followed sports with a passion, especially Alabama football, and her loyalty to Coach Nick Saban was legendary (and non-negotiable).

Nadine was strong-willed, sharp-tongued when needed, and fiercely loyal to those she loved. She carried a memory like a steel trap—your name, your mama’s name, and probably what you were wearing three Christmases ago. She wasn’t one for grand displays, but hospitality was stitched into her soul. If you walked through her door, you were going to be offered something to eat—hungry or not, it was just the way things were done.

Nadine was a master of the gentle interrogation, able to ask just the right questions until she had the full story—she could have run a background check faster than the internet. She was curious by nature, deeply observant, and always had her finger on the pulse of her people. She never missed a thing.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Hurt, and her brothers: William Obie Childers, Jackie Childers, and David Childers.

She leaves behind her son, Doug Hurt, and his wife Gayla; and her beloved grandchildren—Haley, Mallory, and Trey Hurt—who always knew where they stood with her, whether it was through a sweet smile or a well-timed look that said everything.

She is also survived by her siblings: Reba Adair, Lyda Gates, Linda Gross, Pam Jobe (Anthony), and Mac Childers—a family rich with stories, laughter, and a bond that time never broke.

Nadine left this world the same way she lived in it—on her own terms, with her people close, and her legacy of love and grit stitched deep into the hearts of those she left behind. She may be gone from our sight, but heaven just got a little louder, a little stronger, and a whole lot more curious.
