Three people are being held in the Union County jail following a shooting death Monday morning, March 7, in the Alpine community in northeast Union County.

A man was shot in the chest at a residence near County Road 171.

Nathan Knight, age 31, was pronounced dead at the scene by Union County Coroner Pam Boman at 10:20 a.m.

Boman said she would send the body to Jackson for an autopsy.

The Alpine community is no stranger to violence. Law enforcement officers are often dispatched to the community.

The most egregious example occurred in the spring of 2012 when the bodies of 31-year-old Jo Ann Bain and her daughter, Adrienna, age 14, were found in a shallow grave. They had been killed by Adam Christopher Mayes on April 27 of that year.
