Nathan “Nat” Irwin Shaddinger, 87

November 22, 1937 – December 28, 2024

Romans 8:18 – For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Nathan Irwin Shaddinger, known by most as Nat, departed this life peacefully Saturday December 28, 2024, in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones.

A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held at 11 AM Thursday January 9, 2025, at Martin Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Russell officiating. A one-hour visitation will begin at 10 AM until time of service on Thursday January 9, 2025, at Martin Baptist Church.

Born November 22, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mr. Nat was the son of the late Irwin Louis Shaddinger and Marie Rose Kogel. After receiving his high school education from a private school in New Orleans, at 17 years old, Mr. Nat enlisted into the United States Marine Corp, where he was appointed as a PFC on February 1, 1955, and dedicated his life to proudly serving his country until he was discharged on August 31, 1966. Once he returned home, he was employed with Marine Merchants for twenty years, as he transported cargo and other supplies various places, ensuring they arrived safely and on time. On August 9, 1970, he married his beloved wife, Mrs. Sandra “Sandy” Tankersley Shaddinger, who survives, and together they built a wonderful life and raised a beautiful family.

A Christian and member of Martin Baptist Church, Mr. Nat was a great man whose favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting, caring for and raising llamas, and working on the computer, as he was quite a “technology wiz”. Someone who believed you inspire the world with your courage, he was very patriotic and had a great love for his country. He had a strong drive in life and was one who never complained, and his family always looked to him for advice or when a decision needed to be made. His wonderful personality, love of service to his fellowman and country, and devotion and dedication to God, family, and his community will long be remembered by his loving family and wide circle of friends.

In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Mrs. Sandy, those left to cherish his memories include one son, Irwin Shaddinger of Hope Sound, Florida, two stepdaughters that he raised as his own, Shelly Denise Himes (Gene) and Virginia Lynne Miller (Jim) both of Tennessee, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

New Albany Funeral Home invites you to share memories with Mr. Nat’s family and appreciates his dedication and service to our country.
