Authorities: New Albany man beat victim with baseball bat

NEW ALBANY MS — A New Albany man is charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence/simple assault after a man was beaten with a baseball bat at a Campbell Community residence on Miss. Hwy. 30 early Wednesday morning, Jan. 08, Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said.

Zachary Davidson, 27, of New Albany is in the Union County Jail in lieu of $26,500 bond, the sheriff said. He’ s on probation, and is now being held for the Department of Corrections.

Sheriff Edwards said authorities were called about 11a.m. Wednesday. They found the victim — who was not identified — near the road outside a trailer residence. He identified Davidson as his attacker.

“The victim was involved in an altercation with another man and that man’s wife. He had been beaten with a baseball bat and sustained severe lacerations to his hand, his head and his leg,” according to the sheriff.

The victim was transported by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He remained hospitalized as of Thursday.
