Students in Christy Pipkin’s 4th grade math classes at New Albany Elementary School have been studying measurement. On March 24, Anita Alef’s Culinary Arts classes from the New Albany High School of Career & Technical Education assisted with the lesson. Alef’s students set up four stations that reinforced concepts related to measurement and introduced students to culinary tips. Stations included measuring liquids, measuring dry ingredients, sifting, and snack making. The lesson and activities were developed and coordinated by Zach Gory, student teacher.
Ninabeth Capaning’s 5th Grade EXCEL classes at New Albany Elementary School have been working on and preparing for their TED talks. LeeAnn Thompson’s Journalism class from New Albany High School collaborated with the group on March 29th to assist the elementary students. Journalism students served as mentors for the EXCEL students and helped them in creating their keynote presentations. TED talks are short, powerful talks that cover a variety of topics and use technology, entertainment, and design within the presentations.
