New Albany’s TV99 Changes Ownership

NEW ALBANY, MS – Proteus Media is proud to announce its recent purchase of TV99, New Albany’s community television station. Broadcasting on Channel 99 on the MaxxSouth Broadband system (formerly Metrocast), TV99 serves New Albany and Union County, Prentiss County, portions of Lee County, and Marshall County.

“Charley Kyles and Ruth Callicutt have done a great job in pioneering a community channel here in New Albany, something that’s really special for a town this size”, said Jean Ashcraft, President and CEO of Proteus Media.  “We are very excited about the new programming possibilities for TV99” and “we look to enlarge upon the legacy established by Charley Kyles and Ruth Callicutt.”

“TV99 has been a passion of ours for almost 12 years, said Mr. Kyles. “It’s been an honor to serve our audience and we wish Proteus Media much success going forward.” “There are so many wonderful memories,” added Mrs. Callicutt, “It was certainly hard work, but very rewarding.”

NA Mayor Tim Kent is encouraged by TV99’s potential to serve the community, as well as promote the city and its surroundings. “New Albany has so much to offer. We’re hopeful TV99 can be an effective part of our efforts to publicize New Albany and grow it responsibly.”

TV99 has long been known for its live gospel music broadcasts featuring Charley Kyles, as well as Ruth Callicutt’s news and information shows, local sports coverage, and more.

The new owners will continue the community focus of TV99’s programming and, in addition, they are planning a number of new offerings including a newly formatted, morning news show with local weather, a cooking show, a live music show, and other original programming. The current affiliated network, The Fam Channel, which features older movies and TV shows such as The Beverly Hillbillies likely will be be replaced by RetroTV, which will feature vintage Dr. Who episodes, Mystery Science Theater 3000, as well as movies and other television classics.

In addition, with newer technology and broadened reach through Internet streaming, TV99 will have the potential to reach an entirely new audience worldwide.

Ashcraft says that the new look and programming for the station, as well as a revamped website, should be apparent by the middle of May. In the meantime, changes will take place incrementally as new programming is produced.

Proteus Media is a New Albany, Mississippi based media and entertainment company formed for the purpose of producing programming promoting the positive aspects of the region, both to a regional, as well as a global audience. The Proteus Media website is currently under development.
