Nora Margaret Babb, 86

May 31, 1939 – June 11, 2025

PLANTERSVILLE – Nora Margaret Babb of Plantersville left her earthly body for her eternal home in the early hours of Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit after a brief illness. She was born May 31, 1939, to the late Samuel H. Jones and Marguerite Russ Jones of Rumford, Maine, the youngest of their 11 children.

She graduated in 1957 from Stephens High School and married her sweetheart David “Sarge” Babb of Canton Maine in 1961. As a proud Army wife, she traveled with her husband to all of his stations. In doing so, she was able to visit all over Europe. Her son Jeffrey was born in Orleans, France and her youngest daughter was born in Stuttgart, Germany. The only time the two were separated was when he went on deployment and she went back to Maine where their daughter Carol was born.

After arriving in Plantersville in the early 70s, Nora was a homemaker who raised her children to love their community and their country. As her children aged, she stepped into the workforce working several years at Arvin Industries and then later, began a long career as a Rural Mail Carrier in Nettleton.

A longtime member of First Baptist-Plantersville, she spent her later years attending Nettleton Independent Methodist Church where she helped lead the singing on Sunday mornings. She also loved helping pack the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes every year.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her daughter Carol in 2009, and her husband of 54 years, David in 2015. She is survived by her son Jeffrey Babb of Brookhaven and her daughter Patricia Clark (Barry) of Saltillo. She was so proud of her grandsons whom she loved so much: Andrew and Dallas Babb and Brentt and Dalton Floyd. She also has 7 great-grandsons: Devin, Tristian, Jasper, Sebastian, Bentley, Brohdie and Briley, a special great-granddaughter, Taylor. She also leaves behind a beloved best friend of over 70 years, Carol Zale Mcguire.

Her funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, June 13, 2025, in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo with Dr. Jimmy Smith officiating assisted by Bro. Bubba Kennedy. Private burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park in Verona, MS. Visitation will be from 5PM-7 PM Thursday, June 12, 2025, and from Noon-service time at 1 PM on Friday.
