Nurse introduces middle schoolers to new tech lab

New Albany Middle School Nurse Anne Erby spoke to 6th graders on Monday, August 10 in the new IMAGINE Lab.  Erby explained and demonstrated some of the technology and equipment that healthcare professionals use in their daily jobs.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, in partnership with Bicentennial Volunteers Incorporated, awarded a $5,000 grant to New Albany Middle School for a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)  education project.  This grant funded equipment and technology to promote “Careers in Healthcare”.  NAMS purchased:  a preemie simulator, a human skeleton model, a CPR training manikin, an IV trainer, a clinical stethoscope, an x-ray box, an AED trainer, and additional training and educational materials.

The Imagine STEAM Lab is an innovative, state-of-the art modern lab that encourages a hands-on approach to learning while preparing students for jobs of the future.  The Lab will allow students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in the career sectors that are important to our region including Healthcare, Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, and Logistics.
