Ola Rae Comer Boren, 104

Tupelo–Ola Rae Comer Boren, 104, passed away peacefully at her home on March 20, 2025. She was born on February 7, 1921 to Rhoton Watts Moore and Alice Brown Moore of Fulton, Mississippi. She graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mississippi State University. On August 21, 1940 she married Joseph Graden Comer. They were married until his death on June 18, 1981.
While her husband was in the military, she lived and worked in Baltimore, Maryland and Jupiter, Florida. After returning to Mississippi she worked at the Peoples Bank in Tupelo before beginning her teaching career at Verona School. She taught Business Education at Mooreville High School for 27 years, retiring in 1982 after 30 years with Lee County Schools. She was dedicated to her students not only inside the classroom but outside as well. Some of the activities she enjoyed most included directing school plays and chaperoning special trips.
In October 1988, Ola Rae married Tracy Boren in Ozark, Mississippi. They were married until his death on September 30, 1999.
Those close to her will remember her as a strong independent woman who lived a quiet life devoted to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; sisters, Eupal Thornberry, Mildred Sheffield, Dorothy Marlin, and June Pearson; and step-grandson, Dusty Boren.
Mrs. Boren is survived by her daughter Betty Comer Womack, Tracy’s children Sidney Boren (Kathleen) and Dyann Bishop, grandsons Noel Womack (Roxanne), Christopher Womack (Christina), Judson Womack (Brittany); great-granddaughters Audrey Womack, Ava Womack, and Eleanor Womack.
At Mrs. Boren’s request, a private graveside service will be held. Pegues Funeral Directors has been entrusted with arrangements.
