Fire department responds to smoke scare at jail

,

The New Albany Fire Department responded to the Union County Jail about 2 p.m. Saturday amid reports of smoke in one of the pods.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said that one of the prisoners possibly stuck something in an electrical outlet causing it to arc and short out.

Fire personnel eventually deactivated the circuit and cleared smoke from the pod with a fan.

Sheriff Edwards said there was no injury and no damage other than they will need to call an electrician to repair the outlet.
